Yeah this homemade video is adorable. Allison Weiss is kind of the it girl right now for DIY record producing/touring/everything. I was commenting to our co-director something to the effect of “Give a kid a Mac…” yeah, I suddenly feel so old. I believe we still had wax machines for paste-up in college, and everyone was afraid of our Blueberry Mac when it arrived with Quark 3.0. If I’m correct, I also think I was editing VHS tape with master copies in a chamber somewhere in Toccoa, Georgia. (Shudder.)
I love you digital revolution.
Bonus: Jenny Owens Young and Allison Weiss go get PIZZA in this epic video short.

Our documentary The Experiment continues to roll along. Goodbye summer! I’ve been absent from my own blog traveling east for shoots and vacation. It was certainly the summer of New Jersey, a state I never planned to visit. The crew at 137 is into our final shoots for our cold fusion film. And, remarkably I spent one evening this summer, surrounded by a table of cold fusionists and drinking my first sangria. I’ll elaborate when the film hits.
As such I will use this opportunity to casually mention– I need to get a film crew to Rome to cover the annual cold fusion meeting for the documentary, should you be able to peel a Lincoln from your wallet, the link is here on Kickstarter. It was a great trailer too! I’d be much obliged and we have fantastic science swag to give you in return. Ahh. Independent filmmaking/ independent art making. You know the drill.
So as this project ends and another one begins (Soul Winners — a documentary on Christian scare films and the filmmakers behind that [would you guess one of those filmmakers worked as an Associate Producer on The Blob?]) I find Salt Lake City to be the perfect crux for both films as summed up by my personal artistic hero David Byrne.
I’m headed there mid September for shooting followed by a quick pass through Boulder, Colorado to see my filmmaking companion and film inspiration Kurt Morris lecture on the topic. He’s fantastic, check him out.
So long for now, Fall will give me time to beef things up. Which, while we’re on the topic of Salt Lake City, I’d like to also mention my dear friend Xan Aranda is in pre-production for her independent film Mormons Make Movies, so keep an eye on her this year, great things forthcoming.
